Virtual Package Simulation Technology (VPS) Exclusively Available at Stress Engineering
VPS is a suite of four proprietary technologies that completely automate the most common analysis, modeling and simulation tasks necessary to move a new package from concept to market. With VPS, work that typically takes weeks to complete can be done in just days. VPS includes:
|
Structures provides fast structural analysis of plastic bottles under standard loading conditions. |
|
Virtual Race Track (VRT) simulates bottle performance on a packaging line conveyor. |
 |
Bottle Optimal Weight System (BOWS) optimizes HDPE plastic usage for extrusion blow-molding, while making sure a bottle meets loading specifications. |
 |
Autoseal analyzes closure sealing performance and producibility. |
High-Level Affordable Simulation ... Fast
VPS delivers more design evaluation in less time, leaving package engineers free to innovate. A variety of designs can be inexpensively considered and evaluated before committing to physical prototypes.
Based on proven finite-element analysis (FEA) technology, VPS automates the modeling and analysis process. Using this system Stress Engineering can rapidly evaluate many different bottle designs and quickly compare package performance measures based on engineering calculations instead of hunches. All designers need to do is submit bottle geometries. Stress Engineering does the rest on a fast turnaround.
Structures
The Structures module uses non-linear FEA technology to predict bottle performance. Eight load case routines are built in, including top, pressure and vacuum loads both empty and filled, as well as squeeze and hydrostatic loads.
From bottle geometry inputs in the form of CAD, IGS, Pro/E, or SolidWorks files, thickness distribution, and material properties, Structures will provide the gram weight required to meet design targets, along with a comparison of structural performance vs. shape. Through rapid feedback, Structures helps optimize bottle design before cutting molds.
Virtual Race Track - VRT
VRT is an automated tool for simulating bottle performance on both straight and offset conveyors in a plant environment. The Straight Conveyor simulation tests the stability of four to eight bottles surging against a closed gate that is subsequently released. Load cases include surge, offset, and tilt angle, in the same or mixed orientation.
The Offset Conveyor simulates the transition of four packages from a high-speed belt to a low-speed belt, and then back to the same high-speed belt. With output that includes 3D animations of simulations and data for assessing bottle stability, VRT quickly and inexpensively provides valuable design insight that can help avoid conveying problems.
Bottle Optimal Weight System - BOWS
BOWS is a highly automated system for modeling extrusion blow molding for bottles. BOWS also calculates the plastic distribution profile while targeting a specific top load specification. Top load calculations are based on a profiled parison, and output includes the minimum weight, along with the required plastic distribution.

Autoseal
Autoseal improves closure designs by automatically analyzing sealing performance. It analyzes the fit between closure and finish based on dimensions, manufacturing tolerances and applied torque. Starting with a set of pre-defined materials for both bottle and cap, and using industry standards, Autoseal analyses both cantilever and double supported plug designs. Autoseal can create different tolerance scenarios, and its output can serve as a dimensional guide.
