    Metallurgy

For over a decade, Stress Engineering has provided metallurgical services to hundreds of clients in the refinery, petrochemical, electric utility, and foundry industries. To meet the growing demand in this critical area, we have a staff of metallurgical and materials engineers and a complete, on-site metallurgical laboratory. Our capabilities include:

    ?  Materials selection

    ?  Corrosion characterization and mitigation

    ?  Fracture surface evaluation

    ?  Wear failures

    ?  Weld testing and evaluation

    ?  Fitness for service

?  Field services including metallography, hardness testing,

       residual stress measurement and NDE

?  Full laboratory characterization of metals, alloys and other

       engineering materials

    Other Materials

Stress Engineering is concerned with unusual engineering applications of unconventional materials, including plastics, biomaterials, and packaging materials. The objective in most cases is to characterize materials for use in product analysis and evaluation. Since conventional material testing does not provide appropriate data for this purpose, a large part of our Cincinnati materials operation is concerned with developing innovative or nonstandard tests to obtain the information necessary to perform sophisticated analyses of complex products. Examples include:

    ?  Buckling

?  Creep and impact loading of plastic parts

    ?  Fracture surface evaluation

    ?  Permeability

?  Joining and reusable sealing of containers

?  Penetration and tearing of films

?  Fracture, fatigue, and environmental cracking of a wide

       variety of products

?  Failure investigation of in-service failures

In addition, we have adapted conventional material tests, such as tensile, compression and microhardness, for use in evaluating in-situ material properties in products such as blow-molded bottles, where the processing method has a significant effect on properties.
