Microbiologically Induced Corrosion – Detection, Prevention and Treatment

by Sudhakar Mahajanam, PhD

Wednesday, February 19, 2020  |  4:15 PM

Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC) is a poorly understood phenomena that affects all segments of the energy industry. Given the abundance of water used, MIC is a significant concern to most operators, but control and prevention of MIC is typically handled by the chemical provider. This presentation will provide an overview of where MIC is most common in the chemical processing industry, discuss current methods for detecting bacteria, and discuss common treatment options focusing on what operators should know. Examples of recent failures will be provided.
